The Lucan Street hotel, which was constructed in just six days, will be known as “The Schaller Studio”.
Mr Schaller is a respected Melbourne artist who works in Elphinstone, Abbotsford and Richmond on sculptures, paintings and ceramics.
He said he was looking forward to spending more time in Bendigo with his work to feature throughout the hotel.
"I think its terrific," he said.
"It's a really great honour and I think it's great that there's private patronage in the arts."
Mr Schaller said he had watched the hotel being built.
"It's a unique idea," he said.
"They're very stylish hotels without being stylised.
"I'm doing original works for the whole hotel and some large sculptures for the garden, with a big mosaic for the facade."
Mr Schaller said Bendigo would inspire his works.
“Bendigo is really romantic and has a fabulous history,” he said.
“I am looking forward to spending more of my time here, using the city and its surrounds as inspiration for the work that will feature in the rooms of the hotel.
“Today the city is the vibrant art centre for regional Victoria and I intend to start uncovering some of its hidden gems and highlighting the best the area has to offer as it grows into a unique destination for art lovers around the world.”
The hotel will be the first Art Series Studio hotel launched by the Art Series Hotel Group.
The venue will have 128 workspaces with a range of features including televisions, coffee machines, Wi-Fi and microwaves.
The minibar will be stocked with local produce including wine from Heathcote.
The Art Series Hotel Group was created by Will Deague and the first hotel opened in 2009.
The business is set to expand to Adelaide in July, with the Bendigo hotel to open in May.
