The Dragons have appointed Coghlan as their junior development coach.
The role follows the amalgamation last year of the Sandhurst senior and Kennington-Sandhurst Junior Football Club.
"For the first time this year we have a club that fully functions from the under-10s through to senior footy, so it gives us a chance to have a real impact at the junior level," Coghlan - the 2009 Bendigo Football League Michelsen medallist - said on Wednesday.
"What I see my role as is working with the coaches from the under-10s through to senior coach Brett Fitzpatrick.
"We all want to be trying to work on the same things so that we can be teaching our kids some basic ideas that they can take all the way through to senior footy.
"It won't be anything too technical, but I'll be catching up with the junior coaches regularly to let them know how we're doing things at the top end and how we can develop the juniors to be senior players for Sandhurst."
Sandhurst will hold its junior registration night this Friday in the Dragons' clubrooms at the QEO from 5.30pm to 7pm. For more details about the registration night, visit www.sandhurstfnc.vcfl.com.au
