FIRE CREWS took four hours to control a fire which broke out in Marong.
The blaze started about 1pm yesterday in Cathcart Street near Bullock Creek.
It was brought under control about 5pm.
A Country Fire Authority media spokeswoman said the fire destroyed one and a half hectares of grassland.
An advice warning was issued for Marong residents near Cathcart Street about 5.15pm.
Marong resident and SES volunteer Greg Cheyne said he contacted the emergency services after he noticed flames and smoke.
He said he then knocked on doors of homes in the court to warn residents of the fire.
Mr Cheyne said he helped put out a blaze in one of his neighbour's backyards that had caught alight.
