With temperatures forecast for 40 degrees, the BDCA board made the decision on Thursday to postpone Saturday's start to round 11.
Instead, round 11 games in both morning and afternoon competitions will now be played as one-day matches the following Saturday on February 8.
Friday night's junior games have also been called off.
Under BDCA rules, the heat policy is evoked if the temperature is forecast for at least 41 degrees.
However, Walsh said that despite Saturday's forecast being less than 41 degrees, it was in the best interest of player safety for play to be called off.
"We've got rules in place for games to be called off if it's 41 or above, but we think considering the period of heat we're going through at the moment, it's a concern for the players," Walsh said.
"We've been given advice and evidence from the chief health officers in the region that the north central region is going to be on a high health alert through to Sunday, so we're postponing this weekend's games.
"We think it's the appropriate decision to make for the safety of our players.
"We have a duty of care and obligation to everyone in Bendigo cricket."
Meanwhile, Sunday's BDCA Turner-Hollioake Shield representative matches against arch-rivals Ballarat have also been cancelled.
Bendigo was to have played senior and junior matches in Ballarat, where Sunday's forecast temperature is for 40 degrees.
