Investigators believe the man was thrown from a utility travelling east along Gilmour Lane just before midnight.
The man, a 28-year-old from Prahran, died at the scene.
Ambulance Victoria spokesman John Mullen said paramedics were called at 11.43pm.
"A man had fallen from a utility," he said.
The male driver of the utility, a 31-year-old from Seaford, and two other male passengers, a 28-year old from Dromana and a 24-year-old from Frankston, were not injured and are assisting police with their enquiries.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
