BENALLA’S Gary Abley was on the receiving end of a unique ritual after Tuesday’s match against Wimmera-Mallee.

Abley received ‘the can’ after he scored a pair of ducks in Benalla’s second match during Country Cricket Week in Bendigo.

Abley left nothing to the imagination after the game, happily baring all for a Bendigo Advertiser photo.

Benalla cricketers have been receiving the can for more than 10 years.

They say it has become a Country Week tradition.

Batsman Travis King said if anyone dropped a catch, made a duck, was arrogant or didn’t do the team thing, they would receive the can.

“If someone does something wrong during the game they get the can,” King said.

King said the idea of the can came from fellow cricketer Andrew Startin.

He said the legend was that Startin was watering his mum’s garden when the cricket bus pulled up.

King said instead of being laughed at by the boys for watering the garden, he decided to bring the can on the bus.

“Driving from Benalla to Bendigo he came up with the idea of the can,” he said.

Abley's name, along with the three other names from this week's matches will now be engraved on the can.
