IT'S great to see the concept of tying a red balloon to your letterbox to thank our brave firefighters is gaining momentum.
The idea is springing up in towns and cities across Australia and Bendigo woman Jody Hardiman has taken up the challenge of ensuring the idea becomes a national event.
Her dream is a National Red Balloon Day. Great concept. Great community spirit.
Jody has selected February 28 for National Red Balloon Day because it's the last day of summer and the official fire season.
Of course, the danger will remain beyond that but it's a day of significance none-the-less.
There's little doubt our firefighters would get a great lift from such a community event.
They've earned such recognition.
It's great to see the concept of tying a red balloon to your letterbox to thank our brave firefighters is gaining momentum.
And they're a humble lot too.
Take @TheWombatWho who sent the Bendigo Advertiser a tweet on Tuesday thanking us for turning up to take pictures of the fire crews returning from working the bushfires in the Mallee for the past four days.
It's this community who should be thanking them for downing everything and rolling up their sleeves to keep us safe.
Are you up for National Red Balloon Day to say thank you?
