Donations needed for HALT event

JEREMY Forbes is calling on Bendigo businesses to show their support for the upcoming Save Your Bacon breakfast.

I'd really like to emphasize that it doesn't matter how small the contribution is. - Jeremy Forbes

Mr Forbes is the co-founder of Castlemaine's Hope, Assistance, Local Tradies - an initiative designed to raise awareness about anxiety, depression and well-being in the tradie community.

Mr Forbes is bringing HALT to Bendigo with a tradie breakfast at Hume and Iser on March 18 at 7am.

"The Castlemaine one we did last year was at 8am and we thought it would probably be better at 7am," he said.

"We're looking at getting some suppliers there, hardware suppliers, but at the moment it's really about locking things in.

"We've had interest from Bendigo businesses about what they can contribute so if anyone wants to get involved they should get in touch."

More than 100 tradies attended HALT's launch in November at its first Save Your Bacon breakfast at Castlemaine's Tonks Hardware.

HALT bags filled with information about where to get help for depression and anxiety as well as goodies including coffee vouchers were handed out to participants.

Mr Forbes wants Bendigo businesses to get on board and donate goods to fill the bags at the Bendigo event.

"I'd really like to emphasize that it doesn't matter how small the contribution is," he said.

"We're making up 250 Halt bags so if they want to put in 250 items for each bag they can or they can just put in one $10 gift voucher then that's fine.

"They'll just be put in random bags.

"So it could be a pub or meal voucher from a restaurant so tradies when they're struggling, early in the week when they've got no money, they've still got the ability to enjoy a nice meal.

"Anything like that is appreciated."

Mr Forbes said he had already received some positive feedback about the upcoming event.

"People are understanding, they're comprehending what we're doing," he said.

"Everyone's very positive, they're all doing what they can to help which is great."
