La Trobe University Bendigo campus future student advisor Kristy Shay said it was important students asked for guidance if they did not receive their first preference.
"The best thing to do is to seek information," she said.
"People can use pathways.
"It is usually the case with people who are keen to study health and don't get into the course they want, might not consider a diploma.
"It is important to explore the pathways."
Ms Shay said La Trobe University would hold an information session at the end of February to provide information to future students.
Second-round offers will be released on February 6.
