Man charged with counterfeit note offences

A MAN has been charged with uttering counterfeit money and obtaining property by deception.

The 56-year-old California Gully resident was charged by Bendigo Police Friday.

Acting Detective Sergeant Mark Crossley said several retailers had come forward with fake $50 notes.

“He’s alleged to have handed a counterfeit $50 note to local retail outlets,” he said.

“He’s alleged to have mainly been trying to buy clothing and food.

“It’s in relation to a spate of counterfeit $50 notes that have been handed to police over the last week by local retailers.”

He will face court on March 27.

A 33-year-old Bendigo man is being questioned by police.
