Public Transport Minister Terry Mulder said that Bendigo line platforms at Riddells Creek, Gisborne, Macedon and Kangaroo Flat would be extended by up to 40 metres to allow for longer trains and to improve passenger safety.
Member for Northern Victoria Damian Drum welcomed the Bendigo line works.
''The Victorian Coalition Government is continually looking at ways to improve important lines like Bendigo. Since it reopened, following a strong community led campaign, Kangaroo Flat has been a very successful station in attracting passengers,” Mr Drum said.
Works on platforms at Kangaroo Flat and Riddells Creek are taking place during the Regional Rail Link construction blitz while coaches are replacing trains.
The other platform extensions are scheduled for a planned works program in March this year.
Mr Mulder said the $2 million project would improve safety.
“Platforms are being extended so that all passenger doors on six carriage trains can be on the platform,” Mr Mulder said.
“When the Regional Rail Link is completed and 40 new VLocity railcars are delivered, six carriage trains will become the standard on lines like Bendigo to provide maximum capacity for customers.”
