The fire began as two seperate fires near the Lyell Road bridge with each fire estimated to be 30 hectares in size.
The fires combined and were out-of-control both north and south of Mangans Lane near Kimbolton.
More than 150 firefighters, 30 tankers and three water-bombing aircraft helped battle the blaze that was eventually contained just after 6pm last night.
CFA crews were working through the night to further control on the blaze.
Emergency warnings were issued for people in the area not to leave their homes and to take shelter indoors immediately.
The warnings were updated and rescinded just before 6pm when fire crews stopped the spread of the bushfire and fire activity subsided.
The fire entered the Kimbolton State Forest about 5.10pm.
Mangans Lane, Randall Road, Scotty Track, Bendigo-Redesdale Road and the Redesdale-Sutton Grange Road were all closed last night.
The CFA has advised that smoke will be visible from nearby communities and roads.
An update on the fire's situation is expected at 10am on Tuesday.
