With star guard Kyrie Irving and back-up point guard Jarrett Jack sidelined through injuries, Dellavedova was promoted to starting point guard for the fourth time in his rookie season.
The Maryborough product didn't let his team down, scoring 11 points to go with two rebounds, two assists and two steals in 42 minutes of court time.
The loss saw the Cavs' season record fall to 11-23.
They host the Brett Brown-coached Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday (AEDT) before facing a tough road trip against western conference teams Utah, Sacramento, Los Angeles Lakers, Portland and Denver.
Their next home game is not until January 20.
