Two prominent sporting events have attracted athletes of all ages from across Australia.
Athletes are testing their abilities at the Bendigo Oceania Masters Athletics Championships and some of Victoria's budding young cricketers are taking part in the Junior Country Cricket week.
The nine-day Oceania Masters has athletes from 10 countries competing.
City of Greater Bendigo executive manager of tourism Kathryn Mackenzie said it had been a promising start to 2014.
According to Ms Mackenzie January is not Bendigo’s peak tourism period but says the city was already attracting a large number of people.
“We have started 2014 on a positive note,” she said.
“It is great to see people in and around Bendigo.
“I think it adds vibrancy to the city.”
Ms Mackenzie said the Modern Love exhibition at the Bendigo Art Gallery was also drawing tourists from regional Victoria and Melbourne.
