New bub, a new year's treat

THE new year and new life greeted parents Anna Bertoncello and Peter Anderson on Wednesday when they welcomed their son into the world.

Jack Alexander Bertoncello Anderson was born at Bendigo Hospital at 7.48am.

The new bundle of joy is a younger brother for two-year-old James.

Mr Anderson said the entire family was thrilled with the birth of Jack.

"He was due on the 30th," he said.

"When he wasn't born on Christmas day we though he might come on New Year's Day.

"We are so happy."

Mr Anderson said Jack's grandmother had been to the hospital to visit.

He said James was excited about his new brother and had mastered the pronunciation of his name.

"He is very happy to get a brother," he said.

"He is at home with his (grandparents) and can't wait till we get home."

Bendigo Hospital also welcomed the arrival of a baby boy at 2.35am and a baby girl at 5am.

St John of God Hospital did not have any new year babies.

Heathcote bub Max Alexander was Victoria's first 2014 baby, born at "30 seconds past midnight", to parents Michael Cauchi and Peta Boyle.
