OUR emergency services personnel... no doubt they would have much rather been at home with the feet up watching the Boxing Day Test between Australia and England on Thursday.
Instead, at 2.40pm a fire at Toolleen in less than ideal conditions thrust them into an emergency situation.
For a while there it was dire. The Country Fire Authority issued an emergency warning for Toolleen, Redcastle and Colbinabbin.
But the rapid response and the co-ordinated effort of those emergency service personnel averted a much larger disaster - as they have done so many times in the past.

There was damage. There were stock losses. Some weren't so lucky. But we wonder how much more damage would have been done without that quick action of those emergency personnel giving up their Boxing Day with the family.
No doubt there were also some great efforts by property owners in helping the fire battle.
Property owners and those who have private tankers play an often unheralded role in helping to fight these fires and keep assets safe.
The Toolleen fire could have been so much worse. A big thanks to everyone who played a role in making sure that didn't happen.
