Distance series rolls at carnival

HEAT seven in the Flack Advisory distance series for athletes will be run at Saturday night's cycling carnival in Bendigo.

Athletes will race 1000m at the Tom Flood Sports Centre in Barnard Street.

The long-running distance  series is held in conjuction with the Bendigo and District Cycling Club's track program on Thursday nights.

The latest 1600m heat was won by Charles Chambers.

After starting off the 52-second mark, Chambers completed the four-lap challenge in a time of 5.35.

The Bendigo Harriers' veteran is aiming to race at next month's Oceania Masters Games in and around Bendigo.

Saturday night's heat will be a chance to build on series points as well as being a crucial hit-out for those aiming to race the Masters or the Victoria Country titles later in January.

Meanwhile, Athletics Bendigo will run a track and field meet this Saturday at the La Trobe University Bendigo athletics complex in Flora Hill.

Throws events and various running distances will be contested on the Retreat Road track from 1.30pm.
