Thousands raised in tree sale

A CHRISTMAS tree fundraiser has branched out to the community, raising about $10,000.

The Bendigo Y Service Club sold more than 600 Christmas trees - 100 more than last year.

The group quickly sold out of initial supplies and ended up making 11 trips to re-stock their tree collection.

Event co-ordinator Ken Morrison said the trees sold at an unprecedented rate.

“The demand in the first two days of the sale was so high,” he said.

“We were inundated.”

“It probably is the most we’ve ever raised.”

Mr Morrison said he was rapt with the interest from the community.

"We had terrific support. It was very satisfying to see so many happy customers."

The Y service group has been selling Christmas trees as an annual fundraiser since 1954.

He said all proceeds would go toward community youth groups.

“We concentrate on youth organisations," he said.
