THE Bendigo V/Line service will operate on an alternate summer timetable until January 26.
The temporary timetable will be in place on Sunday.
Public transport will be free across the state on Christmas day.
Commuters will have free travel on the first V/Line service departing from Melbourne on New Year’s Day.
Also between December 28 and January 19 trains between Melbourne and Bendigo will be replaced by buses due to Regional Rail Link construction.
However trains will still continue between Bendigo and Echuca.
V/Line advises public transport users to allow an extra 30 minutes for your journey.
In Melbourne, buses will arrive and depart from the Southern Cross Station coach terminal.
Public Transport minister Terry Mulder said late December and January typically was the lowest patronage period for Victoria.
