The Bureau of Meteorology confirmed the mercury hit 41.3 degrees at 2.21pm.
It was a Total Fire Ban in the Northern Country, Mallee and Wimmera fire districts.
There were several fire incidents during the day including a house fire in Flora Hill, likely caused by Christmas lights that had been left on.
There was also a grass fire on Rothacker Road in Serpentine which was caused by a lightning strike and 12 CFA units attended a grass fire at Ultima.
Today is not a day of Total Fire Ban.
Metro cancelled more trains yesterday but services are expected to run as normal from Saturday.
