COUNCILLORS have acknowledged traffic concerns at Strathfieldsaye, with Cr Helen Leach saying it will take someone to be killed before VicRoads takes action.
In response to a petition tabled to council detailing local students' concerns about traffic in the area, Cr Leech moved a motion to prepare a comprehensive report regarding traffic in the area.
But most councillors agreed it should wait for a response from VicRoads before preparing a report.
Cr Leach said it was no longer acceptable to handball these issues to VicRoads.
"This is an urgent and life threatening matter," she said.
"VicRoads is renowned for not acting... We need a comprehensive management plan."
But Cr James Williams said all areas of the region were experiencing rapid growth pains.
"We should not be putting this ahead of other priorities," he said.
"We can't just take money from one area and put it into this area. It's not a long term solution."
Cr Rod Campbell said more information was needed before any action could go ahead.
"The revolutionary process has potentially ugly consequences."
Cr Elise Chapman supported Cr Leach's motion, saying the situation was getting worse every day.
However, the motion was lost.
Councillors agreed to await a response from VicRoads before the report was prepared .
