GUESTS at next week's 2013 Bendigo Stadium Community Christmas Lunch will take home a Bendigo FoodShare Christmas hamper.
Bendigo's IGA supermarkets and Myer Bendigo have thrown their support behind the event with donations of food and decorations.
Bendigo Stadium chief executive Jason Wallace said preparations for the festivities were on track.
"We're really gearing up for a great Monday Christmas lunch," he said.
"We're looking at needing about 13 more volunteers to take us to 50.
"And for lunch guests, our capacity is 350 and we're sitting at around 160 at the moment."
The 2013 Bendigo Stadium Community Christmas Lunch will be at the Bendigo Stadium on December 23.
Businesses have been invited to sponsor tables, donate food, helpers for the day and spread the Christmas cheer.
Long Gully IGA Manager Trevor Morison said the supermarkets’ joint decision to donate the food was an easy one.
“All the IGA supermarket owners agreed this was an opportunity to do some good and provide for those people who don’t always get to have a merry Christmas,” Mr Morison said.
“At first IGA was going to help source the food at the best possible price but then it was obvious that the best way to really assist was to donate the goods.
“The food we’re providing is of the highest quality and guests will be able to have a traditional Christmas lunch with all the trimmings.”
Bendigo Myer also toured the Bendigo Stadium this week to organise decorations for the event.
MLC Advice Bendigo franchise principal Neil Dyson told the Bendigo Advertiser recently he had no hesitation about showing his support for the upcoming 2013 Bendigo Stadium Christmas Community Lunch.
"I've recently moved from Melbourne and I've been active with a major charity in Melbourne," Mr Dyson said.
"I want to continue that and support my new local community."
It’s not too late to register as a guest for the event.
To register phone Mary White at the City of Greater Bendigo on 5434 6168. To volunteer at the event contact the Bendigo Volunteer Resource Centre on 5441 1404.
