“Calmly, in line with their training and with a wonderful result, the team ensured the boy was removed from the water, appropriate attention was rendered and all the right back up was called,” Mr Bailey said in a media release on Tuesday night.
“Thanks to their quick work, the boy is safe and well and is expected to return to school this week,” he said.
Mr Bailey said the incident was a timely reminder of the importance of vigilance when children are around water.
“We’re delighted that on this occasion all the plans and people we have in place to reduce the risks of water play and swimming resulted in a happy outcome,” he said.
“At this time of year, and especially in this hot weather, we encourage parents to talk to their children about the dangers of water; we encourage active supervision of children of all ages and we encourage swimming in pools where lifeguards are on duty."
