The line-ups were locked on games and hoops after the final shot was played to end a run of four singles and two doubles contests.
A best of five hoops was needed to decide the clash on the Eaglehawk courts in Napier Street.
Maldon played the shot of the day to win its third grand final.
The premiership-winning team was Leo Farrell, Rick Janssen and Steve Noble.
Golden Square Gold's team was Lorraine Baker and Chris Eiffert.
The Maldon line-up endured a nerve-jangling clash in the previous week's semi-final against Maryborough White.
Maldon won 4-36 to 2-32.
Golden Square progressed to the grand final after a 5-38 to 1-21 victory against Quarry Hill Maroon.
This season's competition was contested by a dozen teams.
Quarry Hill, Eaglehawk, Maryborough, Macedon Ranges and Golden Square all fielded two teams.
Maldon and Castlemaine each had a team take to the court in the NDCA pennant.
The Northern District Croquet Association is planning to start next season in early September.
