Bendigo Health put on a Christmas lunch for about 150 of its volunteers last week to say 'thanks a million' as part of its International Volunteer Day celebrations.
Bendigo Health Volunteer Services manager Sharon Walsh said the contribution of volunteers enhanced the organisation.
“Volunteers provide much needed ‘value added’ services to patients, residents and families,” she said.
“This year our volunteers have contributed over 25,000 hours and have assisted over 40,000 people across our services.
“We consider our volunteers a very valuable part of the healthcare team and this amazing group of individuals bring a sense of the community into our facilities.
“With the gift of time, passion, energy and commitment they assist us with basic day to day activities as well as encouraging and supporting our patients, residents and visitors and each one of these volunteers makes a real and enduring difference to the lives of those they meet, our services and our staff. “
