ADJT Construction, which owns the property, is extending the building to have three floors which will be used as retail space on the ground floor, office space on the first floor and an apartment on the top floor.
Company director and project manager Dean McNamara said the building is expected to be completed in March next year.
“We are extending the building,” he said.
“We have been working on the building since early this year on and off.
“There is no great hurry. When it is finished it is finished.
“We have had the building for about eight years.
“But since I sold the business BRB Modula I have more time on my hands.
“We are hoping it will be finished around March and ready for tenants.”
King Street was closed off between Mitchell Street and Edward Street from 4am this morning while work was carried out.
The street is expected to reopen by noon.
