THE community will not be immediately affected by Holden's departure from manufacturing in Australia, says Labor member for Bendigo Lisa Chesters.
Mr Chesters has spoken with some Bendigo businesses who are concerned about the long-term effects.
"There are a few rubber businesses that supply parts to Holden," she said.
"Holden isn't their only client but there is a worry that these businesses will have to compete against other suppliers which may pop up."
Prime Minister Tony Abbott said it was a ‘‘sad, bad day’’ for Australian manufacturing.
About 2900 Holden workers will lose their jobs over the next two-and-a-half years.
