He said the boy assisted police with their inquiries.
"He spoke to police about two other people involved in the incident," Senior Constable Bennett said.
EARLIER:
POLICE have charged a ‘young man’ in relation to damage done to the Rosalind Park Christmas tree.
First Constable Georgina Taylor said she interviewed the man on Wednesday morning.
“He is charged with criminal damage,” she said.
First Constable Taylor said police had all the information they needed about the crime.
Police also interviewed a female about the damage done to the Christmas tree on Tuesday night.
Senior Constable Charlie Heatherley said the female just assisted police with their inquiries.
Police reviewed CCTV footage and wanted to speak to four people in relation to the incident.
Police did release images of two of the people.
On Tuesday night Senior Constable Heatherley said police still needed to speak to people about the incident.
First Constable Taylor said the investigation was continuing.
On Monday morning the Rosalind Park Christmas tree was found vandalised.
Some of the tree’s Christmas ornaments were found smashed into pieces across the ground.
Baubles were found in the surrounding garden and the picket fence surrounding the tree had also been moved.
The incident occurred between 11.30pm and 11.40pm on Sunday.
City of Greater Bendigo staff cleaned up the mess and had to foot the bill of a $1000 to repair the damage.
The council said signs will also be installed around the Rosalind Park tree to let people know the area is under surveillance.
