Northern Rivers battles hard at state cricket titles

NORTHERN Rivers has found the going tough in the opening rounds of the Victorian under-18 female cricket championships.

The region lost its first two matches on Tuesday, going down to East Metro and Western Waves in Twenty20 format games.

The girls batted themselves into a strong position against South West on Wednesday, making 8/136 from 40 overs, but the game was abandoned due to poor weather and they had to settle for a draw.

Bendigo's Tayla Vlaeminck (43) and Katandra's Hope Irvine (26) top-scored for Northern Rivers.
