Detective Senior Constable Marcus Uren said police search and rescue members canvassed the area as part of an ongoing Central Victorian Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Investigation Team investigation.
Police are calling on the public for information after a group of children were approached by a man who performed a lewd act.
Five children aged 12 and under were approached by the man at a lake at Rotary Gateway Park about 8pm Saturday.
"We had search and rescue up on Tuesday because this bloke is meant to have thrown some things into the lake," Detective Senior Constable Uren said.
"He's supposed to have thrown his wallet into the lake, which defies common sense, but the children have all been pretty consistent about that.
"So we had four members from search and rescue up going through the lake.
"They did a full-on dive through there through the mud and silt and reeds but unfortunately they couldn't find anything.
"I'd say the rain from the day before might have contributed and whatever's been in there might have been flushed around, moved somewhere else - it's a big lake."
The man police are looking for is aged in his 50s and has been described as balding with white hair around the sides and a grey moustache and goatee.
He was last seen wearing a grey, black and red chequered shirt and tight blue jeans.
"We've also done a door-knock through the area," Detective Senior Constable Uren said.
"There's a whole range of possibilities that we hold as worst-case scenarios that we want to prevent and that's why it's so important to identify this bloke as quickly as we can.
"We do hold a concern that his behaviour will continue."
Anyone with information should Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
