The Bendigo Senior Secondary College VCE student has been named a recipient of a Sporting Blue, in recognition of his efforts on the golf course.
Herbert was one of about 60 students from Victorian government primary and secondary schools honoured for their sporting achievements over the past year.
The Neangar Park club member enjoyed a stand-out year, breaking into the world top 100 men's amateur rankings. He now sits at 47.
He finished runner-up at his first pro event, the Heritage Classic, and led Australia's junior team to victory in the the Ten Nations Cup in South Africa.
Herbert was runner-up at the Callaway Junior World Championship in the US, won Golf Victoria's 2013 country championship, and was the best-placed Australian in equal fourth at the Asia Pacific Amateur Championship in China.
Echuca College soccer talent Jessica Pitts was also a Sporting Blue winner.
Pitts made the Australian under-17 squad for the Asian Football Confederation junior women's championships in China and played in friendlies against New Zealand. Her school team won the Victorian senior girls state title.
The awards will be presented at a ceremony at the MCG in March.
