That's true. You can't always get what you want - but Hanging Rock has certainly got what it wanted in arguably the biggest musical coup in the region's history with the Rolling Stones booked for a March 30 gig next year.
Does it get any bigger than Mick Jagger (pictured), Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood - and they will be playing literally a "stone's throw" from Bendigo.
For more than 50 years the Rolling Stones have been a juggernaut on the world music scene, and their back catalogue of material that includes 25 studio and 17 live albums is filled with instantly-recognisable classics.
Just think - (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction, Jumpin' Jack Flash, Angie, Sympathy For The Devil, Brown Sugar, Beast Of Burden, Paint It Black and my favourite Start Me Up... that's nowhere near the tip of the iceberg of the Stones' hits, but hopefully, a selection of what will be on the setlist come March 30.
Hanging Rock will now join the likes of the iconic Wembley Stadium in London and New York's Madison Square Garden as a Rolling Stones concert venue.
Adding to the coup for Hanging Rock is that the March 30 show is one of just seven the Stones will play on their "14 on Fire" Tour in Australia between March 19 and April 5.
As ludicrous as some may have thought the suggestion on the front page of the Bendigo Advertiser on November 23 that the Rolling Stones could be playing at Hanging Rock, it's happening - and it certainly gives this rock fan plenty of "satisfaction".
Now I've just got to get a ticket.
