The tradition of putting up a tree differs among households. 

Some people choose to buy a real tree while others prefer to reuse their plastic tree from previous years. 

Some people like to use tinsel and sparkly baubles while others prefer to use ribbon and hang candy canes.  

For everyone it is an important moment in the lead-up to Christmas.

That's why the Bendigo Advertiser wants to give people the chance to show off their Christmas trees with an Instagram competition. 

To enter simply post a photo of you and your tree on Instagram and use the hashtag #bgotree. 

The Bendigo Advertiser will put the photos in a gallery and post them online for all to see. 

One lucky entrant will win a Samsung Galaxy Ace as chosen by the judges. 

The winner of the Instagram competition will be announced on December 24.
