But he has also been pivotal in helping bring on the next generation of emerging cricketers as a junior coach.
Ryan - better known in the cricket community as "Chicken" - has spent almost a decade as a junior coach with his club, Bendigo.
This season he is coaching the Goers' under-15A and B teams with his brother, Tony, as well as the under-11B side.
Ryan is also into his sixth year as a BDCA junior rep coach and is this season in charge of the under-14s.
"I really enjoy seeing the young players advance and improve in their cricket," Ryan said on Wednesday.
"But it's not just cricket, it's about helping to turn them into respectable young adults."
