Crate Man was back. And then he was gone.
Standing at almost 12 feet high, the green and gray sculpture stood in the middle of the roundabout on Keck and Neale Street on Friday morning.
But by the afternoon he had moved on.
For many he was a welcome return, for others he was a new attraction never before seen in Bendigo and for a grouchy few he was just a pile of rubbish stacked to look like a man.
Like so many other mythological creatures facts about Crate Man are sketchy.
Records of Crate Man's appearances date back to 2007 when he emerged standing in the park at the end of Wolstencroft Road before taking refuge in the middle of a Sternberg Street roundabout.
He has also spent Christmas in Carpenter Street before disappearing from Bendigo. Until yesterday.
Who knows where he may appear next.
Welcome back Crate Man. We hope you are here to bring us even more holiday joy.
