Ms O'Brien attended HALT's launch and Save Your Bacon Breakfast on Tuesday.
"It's absolutely excellent," she said.
"The HALT committee have done a fantastic job to get something like this together and to get the people here.
"It's much needed."
The free breakfast was at the Tonks hardware yard in Castlemaine and was designed for tradies.
"Castlemaine as a community are very community-minded anyway, people know each other in the town which is great," she said.
Ms O'Brien said the initiative had the power to expand to other regions including Bendigo.
"It's an excellent thing for the tradies," she said.
"You just look around here and the blokes are talking about the cricket, football, getting together and that's what it's all about - getting together and having those conversations with each other.
"It's fantastic to see."
