The letter from Colin Lambie 'Solar concern issues off the mark', Bendigo Advertiser, October 25, 2013, deals correctly with the issue of opinions over science and facts.

The recent federal election has exacerbated uncertainty to a point where the market for renewable energy project development remains weak.
Yet solar and wind are becoming better at providing alternative energy, but this is being hampered by statements which do not involve scientific facts only opinion.
In Australia, there are great potential for improved wind and solar conditions and higher production outcomes, despite the vested interests in the fossil fuel generation sector continuing to lobby forcefully to reduce the RET (renewable energy target) to protect their commercial interests.
There is to be a review of the RET legislation in 2014, and it will be interesting to see which way the new federal government goes in the renewable energy target. Whether it will persist with allowing the fossil fuel energy sector to dominate.
Independent modelling conducted by SKM-MMA for the Climate Change Authority, and more recent independent modelling conducted by Bloomberg New Energy Finance shows that households and business will be worse off under a reduced RET scheme.
As Emmanual Kant once said: “Enlightenment is how humanity can escape it’s self – inflicted immaturity.“
Let’s hope our politicians are looking for enlightenment.
