MEMBER for Bendigo West Maree Edwards has called for an improvement on the disgraceful state of the Jock Comini memorial reserve/rest area at Ravenswood.
The Calder Highway rest area was opened in 1994 as a memorial to Mr Comini.
Ms Edwards said the plaque commemorating the reserve had been stolen, the seating was unsafe and infested with white ants and the grass around the reserve was out of control and posed a significant fire hazard.
“The Jock Comini Reserve is only 1.8km from the notorious Ravenswood Interchange and I (want to) ensure its survival out of respect to the Comini family as a rest area with the proposed upgrade to the Intersection," she said.
Mr Comini was a founding and 14-year member of the Calder Highway Improvement Committee, a long-time member of the Harcourt CFA, the North West regional ambulance service, and the Loddon Campaspe Regional Planning Authority.
He also served 17 years as a Maldon councillor from 1971 to 1988, including six terms as Shire president.
