Castlemaine Highland Pipe Band, Scouts, local businesses and schools will feature in the parade which begins at 6.30pm from the old fire station on Barker Street and ends at Camp Reserve just after 7pm.
Castlemaine and District Agricultural Society secretary Debbie Hamilton said Friday’s carnival night entertainment would feature sideshows, a woodchop, wildlife displays and fireworks at 9.45pm.
“The whole town comes to a standstill for the parade, and then everyone comes to the show,” she said.
On Saturday visitors can see animal displays, clowns doing face painting, and the hard work put in by exhibitors in the arts, crafts, photography and cooking competitions.
Entries were up in some categories and down in others, Ms Hamilton said.
