ADVANCES in childcare services may be affected by the change of federal government, according to Castlemaine Childcare co-ordinator Ayesha MacEwan.
Ms MacEwan said a scheme introduced by the former Labor government was being reviewed and risked undoing gains made by staff.
She said the review could cause some workers to leave the industry in search of better pay.
A petition with about 150 signatures was presented to Member for Bendigo Lisa Chesters on Wednesday, who said a pay rise for staff was now at risk.
“It’s disappointing that after having qualified, the Castlemaine Childcare Centre may now miss out on this vital funding,” Ms Chesters said.
But Assistant Minister for Education Sussan Ley said the Early Years Quality Fund gave limited support for childcare providers and said providers had raised concerns over the fund.
