Local stores record strong sales for Cup
BENDIGO boutiques are experiencing a shopping frenzy, as racegoers hurry to put the finishing touches on their outfits ahead of the Bendigo Cup.
Hairdressers, beauty salons and spray tanning clinics are booked out, with excitement for Wednesday's event at an all time high.
Wendy Cullin works as a sales assistant with Review in Myer and said dresses had been running off the shelves this Spring Racing season.
"They are usually like this at this time of year," she said.
"It's a busy time for us."
Ms Cullin said bright colours and A-line dresses were popular trends and it was a positive sign people were shopping locally.
Bendigo Hat Shop owner Ali Blood said business was booming although the unpredictable weather had at times stalled sales.
"We have been really busy, although we have had our fair share of quiet spells," she said.
"I think it's the weather - it's confusing the girls."
Ms Blood, who has owner the store for 24 years, said it was great to see local people shopping in local stores.
She said head pieces were again popular however hats were starting to make a comeback.
"The head pieces are a popular choice although it's nice to see some hats (purchased)."
Myer Fashions on the Field co-ordinator Stacey Lonsdale said there was no need to go "outside the postcode of 3550" for an outfit.
"Bendigo has a good balance between high end fashion and the more affordable range," she said.
"There are some great local boutiques that stock really high end designer brands but also some great price points."
Ms Lonsdale encouraged racegoers to embrace their own style but to remember dress length is important at any racing event.
"Always follow the trends but add your own contemporary twist," she said.
This year's Myer Fashions on the Field ambassador is television personality Lauren Phillips, with the other judges consisting of Jools for Jim owner Jill Cantwell-Fox, milliner Rebecca Share, Cue Clothing's Josie DaRous and fashion consultant Marnie Hart.
Myer Fashions on the Field registrations open from 10.30am till 1pm.
