THE flowers were in bloom for this year’s Zonta Open Gardens event.
The public was given the chance to have a look at what lies over the garden fence of four private gardens in Bendigo.
Sunday's event, organised by the Zonta Club of Bendigo, aims to raise money for the Zonta 2014 Birthing Kit Project which sends birthing kits to countries in need to assist women have a safe birth without medical assistance.
Zonta member Dale Little said it was a good cause.
“There are many people in the community who support the project and help assemble the kits,” she said.
“It costs $3 for a kit and we hope to send 2000.
“A fundraising event like this is a great way of engaging with the community - they get something out of it and so do we.
“It is going really well. We have had a steady stream of people and the weather has been very kind.”
Ken and Margaret Richmond, who opened their garden, said they were happy to be involved.
“The money is going to a good cause and I love my garden,” Margaret said.
Meanwhile, visitor Merilyn Edwards said it was a lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon
"It is a beautiful day and it’s for a good cause,” she said.
