BENDIGO golfer Lucas Herbert recovered from a horror start to remain in contention at the halfway mark of the prestigious Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship in China.
Herbert bogeyed his first four holes in Friday's second round and looked set to slip down the leaderboard.
But he held his nerve and played the remaining 14 holes in even-par, including a brilliant birdie three on the tough par-four 18th.
He shot a four-over 76 in the second round to be in a tie for 17th at six-over par, six shots behind the leaders at Nashan Golf Club.
The winner of the event gains entry into next year's US Masters at Augusta.
