SANDHURST needs 207 runs on Saturday to record its first win over Bendigo United in the Bendigo District Cricket Association for more than a decade.
The Dragons will resume at 0-13 at Harry Trott Oval after bowling Bendigo United out for 219 on day one last Saturday.
Sandhurst hasn't defeated Bendigo United since winning by 24 runs in round eight of the 2001-02 season.
"I think it's certainly an achievable target if we bat our 85 overs on Saturday," Sandhurst captain Craig Howard said on Friday.
"The outfield was quite fast last week, so I'm assuming it will be similar on Saturday, so if that's the case, if we bat our 85 overs we should get the 200-odd runs that we need."
Aiding the Dragons in their run-chase is that they won't have to contend with two of Bendigo United's key bowlers in wily veteran Nick Crawford and coach Marcus Smalley, who are both missing the round three match.
Young openers Isaac Conway (8 n.o.) and first-gamer Sebastian Greene (1 no.) will continue the Sandhurst innings after last week negotiating seven overs before stumps.
"Isaac is one of the better young players going around and got an opportunity in the seconds with Essendon last week," Howard said.
"We think we've got plenty of batting in the side with Andrew Sheehan coming in down at No.9."
Sandhurst has lost its opening two games of the season and sits on the bottom of the ladder.
A win over a quality side like Bendigo United - tipped to again be one of this season's flag challengers - would be a major boost for the Dragons' confidence.
"Bendigo United is a proud club, so I'm sure they will come out and throw everything at us," said Howard, who starred with the ball last week, taking 5-37.
"But we'll have to absorb it, take our eyes off the scoreboard a bit and just play each ball as it comes.
"If we can bat the 85 overs, you probably couldn't help but score 200-odd runs on that outfield."
Last week's best: BENDIGO UNITED - H. Behrens 45, M. Podosky 44, M. Di Fede 35. SANDHURST - C. Howard 5-37, W. Keck 2-9, L. Bowe 2-71.
