BIG hits, bumps and bruises will be on the menu when the Chiko Rollers hosts thrill-packed roller derby action at Bendigo Stadium on Saturday.
The talented travelling team, brought together from Bendigo's Dragon City Derby Dolls roller derby league, will be in the thick of the action when DCDD presents The Chronicles of the Chiko Rollers: The Lions, The Witches and the Rat Pack.
Two contests will be played out, with the Ballarat Rat Pack taking on the Witches of East Vic from 4pm, followed by the Chiko Rollers up against the Victorian Roller Derby League Gold Lions at 6pm.
Roller derby is a fast-paced sport which sees two teams of five players on the rink at one time.
Each team's 'jammer' tries to skate through a pack of four opponents, scoring points for their team by lapping their opponents.
It's up to the packs to stop the 'jammer' - sometimes leading to bruises, bleeding and 'rink rash'.
The action-packed sport is one of Australia's fastest-growing sports for women and encourages "women to be strong in both body and mind, and it also provides a much-needed outlet from 'normal' life", according to DCDD.
Tickets to get along and show your support for the Chiko Rollers are free for children under five, $5 for children six-16 and $15 for spectators 17 and over.
Spectators are encouraged to dress as Narnia characters, while market stalls, food, bar, games, raffles and other entertainment will also be available.
Tickets are available at the doors, which open at 3.30pm, or online at www.dragoncityderbydolls.com.
No BYO alcohol or chairs.
