Bendigo VCAL students show community what's on offer
SECONDARY college students from across the city toured Bendigo TAFE on Thursday.
Senior VCAL students hosted a Youth Open Day showing prospective students around the Hargreaves Street campus.
Staff educated the future students about the range of courses that Bendigo TAFE had to offer while current students spoke about their TAFE experiences.
A course information desk was also set up for anyone wanting to learn more about their study options.
A fashion show, music, art and food were also on offer.
A Bendigo TAFE spokesperson said VCAL students enjoyed the day.
The spokesperson said the VCAL students took guests on a guided tour, explaining what it is like to be a TAFE student.
“The students got a great deal of support from Bendigo TAFE events officer helping them learn how to go about organising such an event,” the spokesperson said.
“Planning the day, approval documents and contacting businesses and organisations, set up of the area.
Students gained confidence as organising the day was also part of their school project.
“Local businesses supported the students by providing gifts and vouchers to make a hamper for a raffle prize, contributing to raising funds for cancer research.

Twenty-five students organised the Youth Open Day which is a first for the school.
“The students wanted to share their story with other young people in the area so it was decided to plan the event during school hours,” the spokesperson said.
“It was very much a social occasion with VCAL students wanting to promote it more as a celebration.”
The spokesperson said other parts of the TAFE also supported the day, helping to cook a sausage sizzle.
The open day was one of the school’s major events with many of the city’s businesses and youth service groups sharing their information.
