A MAN snorted like a bull and charged at police before assaulting three officers in a Bendigo cafe, a court has heard.
Joshua Illarietti, 21, of Heathcote, has been convicted and fined over the late-night assault on March 24 this year.
The Bendigo Magistrates Court heard Illarietti was ejected from Star Bar nightclub about 3.30am for slapping a woman.
Security officers called police to assist in removing him from the venue when he responded aggressively.
Prosecuting, Sergeant David Somerton said Illarietti appeared to be affected by alcohol and other substances when he lashed out at police and fled the area.
He was later found at nearby Shish cafe where police attempted to restrain him.
Sergeant Somerton said he continued to abuse police and told the officers to "f** off".
"He was verbally aggressive. He then flexed his muscles and began snorting like a bull."
Sergeant Somerton said he charged at one officer and almost knocked him through a glass window.
"He then began swinging his arms around. He struck one officer twice on both sides of the face. He continued to flay his arms, and punched another female officer on the top of her head."
Back-up police units were called and Illarietti tried to resist arrest again as he was handcuffed and taken to the police station.
Illarietti told the court he had been at a friend's 21st in Bendigo that night and had drank numerous alcoholic drinks.
He said it was the first time he had been out since he was arrested for being drunk and disorderly in Melbourne three months earlier.
"I've been off the drink since," he said.
"I don't even go to my local anymore. I'm trying to put my head back on."
Illarietti pleaded guilty to all charges of assault and resisting arrest.
Magistrate Jennifer Tregent said it was a concern that Illarietti committed such an unrestrained outburst.
"There was no stopping you despite repeated attempts to get you to stop," she said.
Magistrate Tregent ordered Illarietti to pay an aggregate fine of $8,000 with conviction.
He was also placed on an exclusion order from going into licensed premises within the designated Bendigo area between the hours of 9pm Thursday and 7am Monday.
