THE Bendigo Agricultural Show is set to entertain everyone, from the tiniest of toddlers struggling to choose the perfect show bag to the CWA ladies delicately judging the best cakes in the region.
In its 154th year, the show will feature mini bikes and precision driving, the ever-popular fireworks, baby animals, the inaugural rabbit competition, as well as fairy floss and hot dogs.
But show secretary Rod Bowles said it was the multi-million dollar rides that drew the biggest crowds.
"Some of our rides are the best in the world, with some costing upwards of $4 million each," he said.
"These are the biggest and best rides featured at places like the Sydney Show and we have them right here."
Up to 18,000 people are expected to pour into the Prince of Wales Showgrounds on Friday and Saturday.
Several people were working hard to prepare for the show on Thursday, which kicks off on Friday.
Mr Bowles said the show came with a lot of hard work, but it was all worthwhile.
He said the show had something to keep everyone entertained.
"The best thing about the best show is that it caters to all ages, from the more senior people, in way of competition and crafts, to children who come for the show bags and rides and little animals," he said.
On Thursday morning, judges from across the region used their skills to determine the best cakes, crafts, flowers and wool from hundreds of entries.
As the smell of baking wafting across the showgrounds, six CWA members inspected dozens of cakes, ranging from sponge to scones to chocolate to the popular fruit cake.
"We've had up to 10 entries for each category, and there's more than 40 categories. People are definitely interested in cake," volunteer Lois Pickles said.
And Bendigo Garden Club's Lois Campbell said there had been more than 300 flower show entries, as well as 75 junior entries.
"There has definitely been a lot of interest which is great to see," she said.
One of the biggest attractions of any carnival are the show bags, with Pepper Pig and Adventuretime set to be the big sellers this year.
