IT took a combined team of New Zealand and Canberra netballers to prevent the Bendigo Dragons from winning gold at the Australian Masters Games.
The games, held in Geelong from October 5 to 12, attracted many high-quality older-aged sportspeople.
The Bendigo Dragons netball team won seven of its eight round matches in the 55-and-over division and thrashed the Banyule Bats 32-13 in the semi-final.
Bendigo faced its nemesis, the Koaki Rangers, in the final.
Koaki was the only team to defeat Bendigo in the round robin matches and again had the better of the Dragons 37-21 in the gold medal match.
The Gayle Anderson-coached team was Anne Young, Jenni Holborn, Glenda Thomas, Irene Kline, Noela Miller, Wendy Ryan, Noelene Arundel and Catherine Zulian.
The team's umpire was Jolanta Bennie.
