A PROPOSAL to introduce paid parking in the block surrounding the Bendigo Hospital is causing mixed reactions within the community.
Kangaroo Flat resident Nola Thomas says the paid parking will not solve parking strain and that it will simply make things more expensive for people.
The Bendigo Advertiser spoke to Ms Thomas after she had parked her car in Bayne Street on Tuesday.
She was on her way to visit her mother who has been in hospital for about two weeks.
"I don't think will actually change the situation, it will just make it more expensive and stressful for people who are visiting families and friends," Ms Thomas said.
"I'm not happy about it."
A Bendigo Health employee, who did not wish to be named, said the proposal was "ridiculous".
The woman made the comments as she was on her way to her car after finishing work for the day.
"We provide a service and there's limited parking already," she said.
"Don't you think they get enough revenue?"
Brett Winslow lives on the corner of Bayne and Thunder streets and said finding a car park was always a problem.
"Even if they made one side of the street residential and the other for whoever else that could work," he said.
"You see a big rush about 6.30am when all the hospital staff are looking for parks."
Another man who was walking in Bayne Street on Tuesday afternoon said Bendigo residents were simply not used to getting out of their cars.
"In Melbourne you don't expect to get a park right in front of where you're going," he said.
"You have to park and then walk."
The Bendigo Advertiser has also been receiving web comments about the issue.
"What about parking for the poor hospital staff," Steve wrote.
"Residents have driveways to park in.
"The staff get duck shoved from one place to another.
"I hope the new hospital management has upgraded the huge parking problem caused to staff."
